The Ward of Cordwainer is at the heart of the City of London. In an area of 270 by 130 metres it is home to two of the great churches of the City of London, St Mary-le-Bow and St Mary Aldermary, a number of historic streets including Watling Street, Bow Lane and Cheapside, major financial institutions and a wide range of small businesses, shops, restaurants and cafes. In recent years the Ward has been substantially redeveloped and the street scene enhanced.

The Ward is one of 25 in the City of London. Its Alderman, Sir Roger Gifford, a former Lord Mayor of the City, and three Common Councilmen, Sir Michael Snyder, George Gillon and Mark Boleat, all play significant roles in the City of London Corporation.

The Ward of Cordwainer Club plays an important role in the life of the Ward. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the Ward, and its events are both enjoyable and useful.
