91129+82217 5Y23 Heaton depot Newcastle. 18-2-18

            The set was stabled on what is locally referred to as " four service road". It is the only electrified siding around the back of the depot, furthest from the Main Line( out of shot to the far left).

 I took this photo for two reasons, firstly that the set was in reverse order with the Loco on the south end of the train. Secondly because it is unusual to see a class 91 mk4 set stabled here among the DMU sidings.

The public cannot see around this part of the extensive depot sidings.

I was the driver of 91129 as 5Y23 from Heaton to Newcastle Central as ECS. I then worked the train South as the 09-25 1Y23 via the High Level Bridge ( to turn the set ) and via Hertford North diversion to Kings Cross, arriving 13-00hrs.

 The train was in Kings Cross for only 15 minutes.The same set formed the 13-15 departure to Edinburgh!

The loco has conveyed the Queen at least once so far. The former GNER CEO Chris Garnett told me personally the events of that day. He was company representative and host for the Monarch.
