Earth from the sky :) - a photo on Flickriver

            Island on the sea, seen from the plane :)  I took this photo after taking off from the airport on the island of Rhodes :)

Levitha, known in classical antiquity as Lebinthus or Lebinthos is a small uninhabited Greek island located in the east of the Aegean Sea, between Kinaros and Kalymnos, part of the Dodecanese islands. It is part of the municipality of Leros. The island is mentioned in two of Ovid's works Ars Amatoria and the Metamorphoses in connection with the saga of Daedalus and Icarus. While escaping from Crete, Daedalus and Icarus flew over Lebinthus. The total area of the island is 9.2 square kilometres and its total coast line length is 34 kilometres. In June 2019, archaeologists from the Greek culture ministry's Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities department discovered 2000-year-old five ancient shipwrecks at the bottom of the sea near the Levitha island. Along with the shipwrecks, a big granite anchor pole dating back to the 6th BC and amphorae dating back to the 3rd B.C were found. The amphorae were used during the era of the Ptolemaic Kingdom as a container for transporting goods such as wine.

Lewita, znana w starożytności jako Lebinthus lub Lebinthos, to mała niezamieszkana grecka wyspa położona we wschodniej części Morza Egejskiego, między Kinaros i Kalymnos, jest częścią wysp Dodekanezu, położona w gminie Leros. Wyspa jest wspomniana w dwóch pracach Owidiusza "Ars Amatoria" i "Metamorfozach" w związku z mitem o Dedalu i Ikarze. Podczas ucieczki z Krety Dedal i Ikar latali nad Lebinthos. Całkowita powierzchnia wyspy wynosi 9,2 kilometrów kwadratowych, a jej całkowita długość linii brzegowej wynosi 34 kilometry. W czerwcu 2019 r. Archeolodzy z greckiego ministerstwa kultury odkryli pięć 2000-letnich starożytnych wraków statków na dnie morza w pobliżu wyspy Levita. Wraz z wrakami znaleziono duży granitowy słup kotwiczny z VI w. p.n.e. i amfory z trzeciego wieku p.n.e. Amfory były używane w czasach Królestwa Ptolemejskiego jako pojemnik do transportu towarów takich jak wino.
