            This series of pictures deals primarily with the Zugspitzbahn which connects Garmisch-Partenkirchen  (708m NN) to Zugspitzplatt (2.588m NN) by 1000mm narrow gauge. Constructed between 1928 and 1930 the 19km railroad uses  Riggenbach rack rail on 12Km of the way. It is the highest railroad in Germany, third highest in Europe (Jungfrau and Gornergratbahn in Switzerland still go higher).
 I also added some pictures of non-rail sites in the vicinity, just for fun.

Remarks:  Holchalmbahn cabin 1 starting its descend from Osterfelderkopf (2.050m NN) to Hochalm (1.700m NN). On the ridge, on the picture just below the cabin, you can see the Kreuzeckhaus (1652 m ü. NN), also known as Adolf-Zoeppritzhaus. It was built in 1906. Left in the valley is Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
