please, won't you crawl with me?!

before i even lived here in bellevue, this was one of my first stops along the way. the creative treehouse (on the 2nd floor) hosted the pgh. flickr group's indoor photo stroll as i re-arrived in the city, in february. the 1st floor was housing the wonderful thrift store "your mom's". i was charmed by both.

i moved to bellevue in april/may, and discovered that mom's had gone awol. but what remained was a fervent effort on the part of sam (the owner of the murphy building - not yet met), and a guy named angus (working with sam) to regroup. not only were they going to open a tattoo parlor within, but also a down-home electronics/music store, a skate shop, a dance studio, and hopefully a movie theatre on the 3rd floor.

through angus i met maria (his wife), bellydancer and instructor extraordinaire! her new studio, boheme center for dance, just opened last night. (all those years in san francisco and it took coming back to pittsburgh for me to finally take classes?!)

she mentioned the upcoming wine and art crawl on may 24th, to benefit the murphy building. PLEASE see the link for the story and details.

if you at all know bellevue, and happen to appreciate it's charm and potential, you know that turning another one of its buildings into a dollar store or the like would be more than tragic.

come on by, meet the local shop owners, artists, denizens of the neighborhood (myself included). these folks are fine people, the business' valuable. i can tell you firsthand that in only a month of so here, every single shop owner i've talked with has been more than friendly - they've all gone out of their way to welcome me, and provide me with more than what i was initially looking for (seriously - like, giving me free things, or doing personalized handiwork on the spot to adapt something for my apartment).

there will be much merriment and perhaps a bit of mayhem, i've been assured.
