Cherished Memories

            Night-time photography was particularly rewarding at the depot in Fuxin where locomotives would take on water and sand, and ash would be raked out into the pit in preparation for the new shift. In this scene, SY1397 is taking on water whilst the ash is cleaned out. It was fascinating to see these timeless procedures carried out by the crews, almost half a century after steam was phased out in UK.
