Larry Clark, Censorship, Debate, Hypocrisy.

The exhibition of Larry Clark's photos (American film director, photographer, writer and film producer) forbidden for the 18 years old people by the museum of modern art of Paris (followed closely by the museum of the fine arts of Bern) !

Why to ask to a contemporary artist whose work is a reference all over the world to come to expose, to make with him the choice of the photos for to censor him, to muzzle him, to gag him ??

France, earth of Freedom ? A joke ! How in 21 ° century in a “pretend” civilized and developed country can we still say to us what we can see or not see ? To look or not ? To consider as Art or not ? To show or to hide to our children ?

Are we not in a country of rights ? I refuse that we put blinkers on my vision of the world ! I deny the censorship which explains me what I can say to my daughters ! I demand my right of parent and citizen to be able to decide by myself ! I claim my creativity of artist to be able to photograph, to publish and to exhibit what I want within the limits of MY common sense of responsible adult !

I shall end with this Larry Clark's quotation himself :" It was stories which I wanted to tell, quite based on real persons. Persons whom I knew, persons with whom I increased. Friends to me. Things which I had read and others than I had seen. "

Are not we all a little bit this man behind our lenses ?

L’exposition des photographies de Larry Clark (Photographe, Réalisateur et Directeur de la Photographie américain) interdite aux moins de 18 ans au musée d’art moderne de Paris (suivi de près par le musée des beaux arts de Berne) !

Pourquoi demander à un artiste contemporain dont le travail est une référence dans le monde entier de venir exposer, de faire avec lui le choix des œuvres pour ensuite le censurer, le museler, le bâillonner ??

France, terre de Liberté ? Mon œil ! Comment au 21° siècle peut-on encore dans un pays dit civilisé et développé nous dire ce que l’on peut voir ou ne pas voir ? Regarder ou pas ? Considérer comme de l’Art ou pas ? Montrer ou cacher à nos enfants ?

Ne sommes nous pas dans un pays de droits ? Je refuse que l’on pose des œillères sur ma vision du monde ! Je nie la censure qui m’explique ce que je peux expliquer à mes filles ! Je réclame mon droit de parent et de citoyen à pouvoir décider par moi-même ! Je revendique ma créativité d’artiste à pouvoir photographier, publier et exposer ce que bon me semble dans les limites de MON bon sens d’adulte responsable !

Je terminerai par cette citation de Larry Clark lui-même :

" C'était des histoires que je voulais raconter, toutes basées sur des vraies personnes. Des personnes que j'ai connues, des personnes avec qui j'ai grandi. Des amis à moi. Des choses que j'avais lues et d'autres que j'avais vues. "

Ne sommes-nous pas tous un peu cette homme là derrière nos objectifs… ?
