            Squirrel monkeys live in the tropical forests of Central and South America in the canopy layer. Squirrel monkeys grow to 25 to 35 cm, plus a 35 to 42 cm tail. Male squirrel monkeys weigh 750 to 1100 g. Females weigh 500 to 750 g. Remarkably, the brain mass to body mass ratio for squirrel monkeys is 1:17, which gives them the largest brain, proportionately, of all the primates. Humans have a 1:35 ratio. Female squirrel monkeys have a pseudo-penis that they use to display dominance over smaller monkeys. 

Doodshoofdaapjes behoren tot de algemeenste apen van Latijns-Amerika. Doodshoofdaapjes worden 26 tot 36 centimeter lang, met een 35 tot 42,5 centimeter lange staart en een gewicht van 750 tot 1100 gram.

Doodshoofdaapjes leven in de primaire en secundaire regenwouden van Latijns-Amerika, langs rivieren of in mangroves. Het zijn omnivoren, die zich voeden met vruchten, bessen, noten, zaden, knoppen, bloemen, gom, insecten, spinnen en kleine gewervelden.
