La vaporiera in spinta sulla rampa dei Peloritani (Foto del Mese n. 141 – Gennaio 2022)

Un’antica immagine di rara bellezza e sicuro interesse ci riporta indietro di almeno 80 anni.
Un pesante treno merci ha da poco intrapreso il suo viaggio da Messina a Palermo ed ha appena affrontato i primi metri della rampa di valico dei Monti Peloritani.
Le forti pendenze della linea ferroviaria (dismessa nel 2001, vedi articolo sul nostro sito al seguente link www.a-f-s.it/20-anni-sotto-i-peloritani/) imponevano il ricorso ad una locomotiva di spinta posizionata in coda al convoglio.
Nella foto del sig. Sarò Armone tratta dall’archivio fotografico della nostra Associazione vediamo una locomotiva a vapore del gruppo 476 (di costruzione austriaca ed acquisita nel parco FS nel 1919 al termine della 1° Guerra Mondiale) sul ponte che scavalca la Via Consolare Valeria, nel quartiere di Gazzi (Messina).

The steam loco pushing on the Peloritani ramp (Photo of the Month n. 141 – January 2022)

An ancient image of rare beauty and sure interest takes us back at least 80 years.
A heavy freight train has recently started its journey from Messina to Palermo and has just tackled the first meters of the Peloritani mountain pass ramp.
The steep slopes of the railway line (decommissioned in 2001, see article on our website at the following link www.afs.it/20-anni-sotto-i-peloritani/) required the use of a pushing locomotive positioned in queue at the convoy.
In the photo (made by mr. Sarò Armone) taken from the photographic archive of our Association we see a steam locomotive of the 476 group (of Austrian construction and acquired in the FS park in 1919 at the end of the 1st World War) on the bridge that crosses Via Consolare Valeria, in the Gazzi district (Messina).
