Summit Lake, Big Pine Lakes, Sierra Nevada

The Big Pine Lakes basin holds 9 alpine lakes, each with its own characteristics. On our 4 day (3 nights) backpacking trip our goal was to visit all 9 lakes. This is Summit Lake, at 10,900 feet, but it is not the highest lake.

We arrived on the opposite shore, and the lake did not look very interesting. As we walked around to the north side, the Palisades Glacier came into view. This is the largest glacier in the Sierra Nevada.

The peaks in the distance are Mt Gayley, Mt. Still, Polemonium Peak, North Palisade, Thunderbolt Peak, and Mt Winchell. (I stand to be corrected by more knowledgable navigators).

More Impressive, but still not "there".
