Grand Industrial Architecture - a photo on Flickriver

            Building 680 at Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

After taking the interior shots of this building I met an older man who used to work here. He had not been back to Mare Island in 15 years, and he was here to show his wife where he used to work. His memories poured forth, talking about the hundreds of people who worked here, and the huge machines (Betts) he was in charge of. He made a point to say that the machines at every naval shipyard in the US were exactly alike, and workers could move among them without retraining.
