Gobate II - three holes. 3:3 - a photo on Flickriver

            This texts is a continuation of the past two Flickr posts where a reason to slightly separate a 'warm water form' cluster from a 'quiet room' is offered.

Alone and inside this quiet space, surrounded by vivid and dedicated warrior/martial guards, spiritual leaders and negotiators, sits a representative from a group who have travelled far to negotiate their excesses of fine and skilled produce for the precious amber - a prized stone that holds the essence of the sun in it memory of time. The man sits quietly as singing teases into the air from the associated 'warm water forms'. This procedure has been repeated and verified over and over, and is a secure exchange that involved a redistribution of wealth, moments of conversation, rite and information exchange, in addition to the pleasure and prized elevation and transcendental power of rare beauty. 

Sitting in an interior corner shadow, the lone visiting trade representative is perhaps unaware that he has walked past the store of stones;  hidden in three holes (see above) ... Perhaps under the seat mat of a stone-faced guard? ... Perhaps under three decorated poles? One totemic pole to sign the upper plateau with the amber deposits, one pole to sign the trading post and transformation point of La Llana or Gobate, and one pole to sign the people who walk the banks of the great river Ebro highway?

No sooner than the visitor had been escorted inside, then the guard slips aside, or the short and sacred poles were quietly lifted, and example of hidden stones were taken, as if from nowhere, for the visiting man to hold, lean into the light and examine against the darkened walls. 

At no point can the visitor say that he understood where the amber stones were kept. They simply appeared in the hands of those around him. By design, the visitor never gains clear information to feed to bandits, and the ritual trading-post has designed protocols to assure that it repeats between generations for the benefit of trustworthy peoples from far and wide. The proto political implications of this are implicit.

The equivalent space for transaction at the la Llana site is a prestigious and rare building that was made using techniques seen for 'boat havens' and Allée couverte (see below).

The space to the left of the tripod in this image is a steep slope and there is no room for great numbers to gather.
