Nose of Meteor NF.11(mod) [WD790] - a photo on Flickriver

Built in 1952 and spent her whole career as a trials aircraft with the Royal Aircraft Establishment. She flew first with the Telecommunications Research Establishment, then trialled the world’s first Terrain-Following radar with Ferranti and then back to what was now the Royal Radar Establishment. She flew as a manned radar target for trials of the Bloodhound and Thunderbird missiles and ended her flying career from RAE Llanbedr. 
Retired from the active fleet, she was allocated the maintenance serial 8743M and flown to RAF Leeming in November 1981 to provide spares for Meteor T.7 ‘WF791’ then being operated by the Vintage Pair. The remains ended up with the fire section and were scrapped in 1984 with the nose being saved by the North East Air Museum at Usworth. In November 2018, in a deal beneficial to both museums, she was swapped for Jet Provost XN503 and was moved to Old Sarum.
