Ambystoma cingulatum, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, Wakulla County, Florida 2

This is an advanced larval stage of the Federally Threatened frosted flatwoods salamander. The adults look very different. This animal was captured under a permit issued to the U.S. Geological Survey by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It was photographed and released unharmed. It is against Federal Law to capture or molest these very rare animals without a permit. For more information:
