The Seven Sisters

            I remember from my childhood that I used to see these white cliffs in TV and was deeply impressed. I didn't have the slightest idea where they were but I always secretly wished that one day I could see them for real.

Growing up I learnt that most of these were in south UK and not only in one place but in more, sometimes quite far apart one from the other. The most famous are the "white cliffs of Dover" but the most beautiful are situated between the towns of Seaford and Eastbourne in East Sussex. The most famous of these for sure are "the Seven Sisters" a row of seven  hills and seven dips, part of dry valleys in the chalk South Downs, which are gradually being eroded by the sea. Recently due to the continuous erosion an eighth one is being created.

This photo is taken from the path that starts at the Seaford Head car parking and at this point I should give a big THANKS to the Anonymous-Very-Kind-Lady who guided us up there with her car when I asked her (quite far away...) where was that place with the famous view that I have seen in so many classic photos of the Seven Sisters. Without her help I would be still lost in the maze of Seaford's suburbs...

As this car parking is somehow hidden, contrary to what I was expecting we were quite alone up there, which of course was a most welcome change from the herds of tourist we had encountered in other places. On a nearby bench we had an unforgettable picnic, don't imagine anything fancy, just some bread with ham, cheese and tomatoes but who cares with that view??

Needless to say we had to be dragged to leave the place, we decided to go only after it was completely dark and we could barely see our way to the car...
