The Houston Buffaloes, Houston Buffalos, or Buffs were an American minor league baseball team, and were the first minor league team to be affiliated with a Major League franchise, which was the St. Louis Cardinals. The club was founded in 1888, and played in the Texas League at various levels throughout the majority of its existence. The Buffaloes derived their nickname from Buffalo Bayou, the principal waterway through Houston to the Houston Ship Channel, outlet to the Gulf of Mexico. On October 27, 1908, Claude Rielly officially sold the Houston Buffaloes to Otto Sens and J. Doak Roberts. With new ownership, veteran big leaguer Hunter Hill, who had played with the St. Louis Browns and Washington Senators, was hired as a first-year manager. The 1909 season started with an exhibition series between the Buffaloes and Hill's former team, the St. Louis Browns. Hill then led the team to two consecutive Texas League pennants for the 1909 and 1910 seasons. It was the first time that Houston claimed back-to-back championships in its history.

Foley White played for 12 different teams during his eight-year stint in the minor leagues. In his one trip to the high minors—an eight-game stay in 1908 with Mobile of the South Atlantic League—White struggled, batting .143. He finished his career playing in various professional leagues in the Lonestar State.

From the baseball experts - "There is a small bit of intrigue surrounding this card, as Foley White never officially played for Houston. However, the sleuths in this Net54 thread have come to the conclusion that White was with Houston during Spring Training, when these images would have been selected, then opened the 1909 season with Waco." BUT this is wrong, FOLEY WHITE did play for the Houston Buffaloes during the 1909 season - he played around 20 games for the Houston team most of them in center field before being released around the 27th May 1909. He was then signed by the Waco Navigators of the Texas League around the 29th of May 1909.

Pitcher Tesreau is turned back to Austin from which club he was secured, and Foley White is released. Tesreau is the making of a good pitcher and will be heard prom before many years. Folly White la a good fielder, his only weakness being at the bat where he has not been doing much lately. It is probable that he will come into his own before the season is much older and there is a likelihood that he will annex himself to one of the other Texas league teams.
