C&NW 4461 at Baldwin, Wisconsin - June 27, 1984

            After graduating from college I made a trip over to Minneapolis - St. Paul in late June 1984. This was my first visit to western Wisconsin and Minnesota. There isn't a lot of rail action between the U. P. and Minnesota but I started to parallel the C&NW main line after I got on I94 west of Eau Claire. I stopped at a rest stop to eat lunch east of Menomonie and while I was there a C&NW local went by westbound. After finishing my lunch I headed west, getting on highway 12 at Menomonie so that I could more closely follow the tracks to the Minnesota border. After seeing nothing but upright semaphores for awhile I finally ran into an approach at Wilson. Thinking it might be an eastbound I hung around for a bit before the signal cleared up. At this point I figured I still must be behind the local so I headed west and was able to get ahead of him in time to shoot him at this set of semaphores just east of Baldwin.
