            A tiara in a jeweller's workshop in Salé. In the kissari, there's a little workshop in a courtyard tucked away off the souk street. We spent a happy quarter of an hour watching the workers. Men melt the metal and pour it into the moulds, and solder the pieces together; women clean the pieces, polish, put together the wax originals for the moulds. I like this work far more than I like the 'Berber' rubbish made for tourists in Marrakech or Fes - it's over-the-top, but it's incredibly well made (no grungy solder joints, no dabs of solder left visible, no file marks) and delightfully elegant.
