Tasmanian Devil, Cradle Mountain. - a photo on Flickriver

            Tasmanian Devils are the world's largest carnivorous marsupials. It is estimated that a recent contagious facial cancer wiped out about 85-90 percent of the island's wild poulation. Sanctuaries like the one at Cradle Mountain are part of a state wide program to try and restore the wild population with careful breeding of an insurance poulation found to be immune to the disease. The idea is to slowly reintroduce them to the wild once it is afe to do so.
