All Quiet on the North Eastern Front

            Its just before 5:30am and with dawn breaking over the North Sea and Seagulls for company I had the pleasure of watching GBRf 66733 getting prepared for the 14 hour run to Fort William. Within the hour the loco was fuelled, prepared and crewed, with the train made up and positioned at the Network Rail boundary, ready for the 06:25 departure.

Since the closure of the Lynemouth Smelter in 2012 imported Alumina is loaded from the deep sea port here at North Blyth and transported twice weekly to the UK’s only remaining aluminium smelter at Fort William, Scotland.

The image is made into this panorama from 10 vertical frames stitched together in Photoshop - far too adventurous to be having these sort of ideas at 5:30 in the morning, but I was hoping to get the loco, storage facility and the sunrise into one image.
