The BBC's new facade - a photo on Flickriver

I took this photo of the revamped facade of Broadcasting House, the BBC's headquarters in Portland Place, off Regent Street in London's West End, on September 10, 2012, when I was asked to be a guest of the BBC World Service, on the "Newshour" programme with Robin Lustig, to discuss the plans for the handover of Bagram prison in Afghanistan from US to Afghan control. Built in 1932, Broadcasting House has been thoroughly redesigned and redeveloped for the 21st century. As the BBC's website explains, "Over the last ten years, Broadcasting House has undergone extensive redevelopment with the addition of a major new extension and new East Wing, now re-named as the John Peel Wing, in memory of the late Radio 1 DJ. Now complete, this 80,000 square metre structure [provides] state-of-the-art, digital broadcast facilities for staff in Television, Radio (including the World Service), News and Online. At the heart of the building [is] the largest live newsroom in Europe."
