Illuminated trees in Canary Wharf - a photo on Flickriver

These illuminated trees were part of the promotion for the Canary Wharf Ice Rink, photographed on November 14, 2012. The rink, open from November 3, 2012 to January 13, 2013, is in Canada Square Park, just to the east of One Canada Square, the iconic pyramid-topped tower that was the first skyscraper to be built in the former docks as part of the Docklands development initiated under Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s. I took the photo outside 33 Canada Square (aka Citigroup Centre 1 or CGC1), designed by Norman Foster and completed in 1999, which is next door to 25 Canada Square (aka Citigroup Centre 2 or CGC2), the larger tower completed in 2001 and designed by Cesar Pelli. Behind the ice rink is 8 Canada Square, the headquarters of HSBC, whose tower was also completed in 2001 and designed by Cesar Pelli. Both 8 Canada Square and 25 Canada Square are 200 metres (656 ft) tall.
