The Olympic rings - a photo on Flickriver

The Olympic rings

Made of Portland stone, these Olympic rings welcomed visitors to Weymouth for the sailing events taking place there during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, when they were on display outside the railway station. On September 20, they were moved to a high point on the Isle of Portland, where, as the Dorset Echo explained, they "will overlook the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in a nod to the Olympic Sailing events." Photo taken on the evening of April 9, 2013, at the start of a four-day family holiday on the Isle of Portland, beside Chesil Beach, one of the great natural features of the UK, a shingle beach (technically a barrier beach), which is 18 miles long (29 km), 660 feet wide (200m) and 50 feet (15m) high.
