The streets of Cres, Croatia - a photo on Flickriver

            Cres is a city on the Croatian island of Cres. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The town itself was built in the Middle Ages, starting in the 14th century. In 1459 it came under Venetian rule, as most parts of Istria at that time. The old center of the town is surrounded by walls, with five towers and several city gates.
