Evoke - a photo on Flickriver

Evoke

            We arrived in York at night and went into town for a "ghost tour", it being Halloween-time.  The tour was actually very interesting -- the supernatural trappings were kind of hokey, but we learned a lot of local history.

The ghost tour met in front of the York Minster, and so we happened to catch Evoke, an art installation by Usman Haque.  It consisted of ever-changing patterns of colored light rising up the facade of the York Minster.  (It gave my camera's image stabilization fits, because there were two different "frames" for it to decide between: the stationary building or the moving light patterns. But the camera did a very good job on a couple of shots, despite the trying circumstances.)  The patterns were evoked by sound captured by a couple of microphones, so it was interactive -- people would make noises into the microphones and watch the results.
