Woodwork, Canterbury Cathedral choir

            Rick's shot. The choir is early Gothic, having been rebuilt after a fire in 1174. I can't say whether the choir stalls date to that era.  

We were lucky enough to hear the world-famous boys' choir practicing behind closed doors in a side room.  Unfortunately the church has decided it can no longer support a residential boys' choir school, which means rather than being drawn from the best young choristers in England, studying on scholarship, the boys' choir will henceforth be drawn only from local children (following the model of the separate girls' choir).
