So Just Chill and Get Off the Racetrack

View large and dark... like the night. Much improved view!

While not a building of any great note... what I like about this location is the consumption of Upper Thames Street into the bowels of the structure where it passes underneath offices, a school, the approach to the Millennium Bridge and Baynard House before emerging just short of Blackfriars Bridge.

I wanted to get an early morning shot here since the bright lights of the tunnel always shine out very nicely and give the impression of entering into some kind of inferno... although be sure to slow down to 30 before you do!

Upper Thames Street is an enormously historical part of London and I could go on for ages about the places, people and events which have occurred here - history which has shaped the world we live in today enormously and in some ways it's a pity that such a significant location has been reduced to a rather faceless underpass for a road which surely has no place here.

The only saving grace is that the road is somewhat hidden out of view.. but imagine what this space, just north of the river, could become if vehicles were removed - dare I dream of a tree-lined boulevard instead with some space for the city to breathe.

The church to the right is St Mary Somerset and is described in the adjacent picture... in the meantime I'm going to view this dark and large, and think of setting the controls for the heart of the sun...
