Alright, for the past year I've been so pumped for this movie the trailers have been great. But these past two weeks since Fox would not let the review come up until yesterday. After I heard this, I thought, scratch that I KNEW that it was going to suck! The first wave of reviews come in, it's at 20%, then until today it's at 9%... yikes. Now after all of this controversy. I went into the film with all of this stuff out of my mind and watched the movie for what it is. And I'm going to be 100,000,000% honest with all of you... this movie doesn't suck, in fact, it's alright. But it's not perfect so let's get to the good and the bad! Also, one thing to point out is that I'm not that big of a Fantastic Four fan, heck, I didn't even care for them when Ant-Man was on the team! And that's saying something so keep that in mind in the review!
Good: Oh man, the origin of these characters was really cool, I liked a lot of the main 5 characters (Reed, Sue, Johnny, Ben, and Doom). I thought their characters were solid throughout the film (except for Doom). I also liked the flavor of this movie, it really felt like a science fiction horror monster movie. I think my favorite scene in the entire movie is when the experiment goes wrong and it's just horrific as Reed Richards travels through the rubble of the explosion. The blend of Scifi/fantasy and reality, the science in this movie was awesome! Also, props to director Josh Trank for working through the garbage that the studio gave him because I think that almost every problem that there is with this film is the studios fault, a lot like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Spiderman 3. Also i think that my favorite character in the entire film who stayed consistent was the Thing, and he did not get enough screen time!! I really wish I could say more that I liked but a lot of them are considered as spoilers so maybe we can bring them up in the comments!
Bad: Ok, so the first thing is that this film is just cut horribly, there are a lot of plot holes and weird "one year later" stuff in this movie which I wasn't really a fan of. Also, there are a few scenes that are just trash in this film, like I did not like this one scene with Reed and Sue in the library which was TERRIBLE. Also, going off Sue, man, she was just waisted in this movie, I'm not going to spoil anything but there's something wrong with her and the origin of the film that I did not like, you'll see what I mean when you see the actual transformation of the four. Also another thing that I did not like was (sorry this is a spoiler so look out) Reed Richards likes runs away for a whole year and that was just weird, that did not need to happen. The next thing I would like to talk about is Dr. Doom... ok so
1. His ambitions and goals were really weird
2. Ok, so this is actually something that should've been in the good but since we're on Doom, I did not mind his look, I was fine with it. Also, one more good thing, sorry, I liked this one scene in the movie were Dr. Doom is escaping (it's in the trailer so it's not a spoiler). in the movie it's really scary and I love it!
3. **OK MAJOR SPOILER HERE WE GO***
Dr. Doom dies and I just think that's a total wast of a character, like he could've been the next Loki and be the main villain in an X-Men/FF crossover, that would've been so cool!, yeah Doom dying is probably the thing that I hated the most out of this film.
***OK END OF MAJOR SPOILER COME BACK***
Ok, one more thing I'd like to talk about... One scene in this movie totally rips off Avengers Age of Ultron!!! I was so surprised because it's such a total rip off!
Ok, so overall you can see that I both loved and hated this movie, but the more I think about this movie, I more charming I think it is. So I'm going to give Fant4stic a 6.5/10. It's nothing special like Ant-Man or GOTG, but it's certainly better than all the other Fantastic Four movies! So here's what I'm going to say, if you hate this movie, that's cool, I'm not going to defend it (unlike Man of Steel because that's a great movie). So if you don't want to support this movie and you want it to go back to Marvel, then don't see it. But if you do see it, PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEAAASEE I implore you to go into this movie leaving your expectations at the door because that's what I did and I enjoyed this film! One last thing I'm going to say is, I want this certain Fantastic Four franchise to continue, there is so much potential in this universe and I really want these four to crossover to the X-Men! Just one thing, Fox, give the right to Kang the Conqueror to Marvel, thanks!
