British Museum, Parthenon South Freeze

            A scene which is thought to have inspired John Keats in his "Ode on a Grecian Urn"

A youth (130) rests his foot against a rock in order to control a startled beast. On the far side a second youth (131) reaches out to grab a horn. Disturbed by the events from behind, figure 133 quickens his step and turns sharply. A youth (135) leading the heifer also turns, while the beast itself raises its head in protest. This scene is thought to have inspired the poet John Keats to write in his "Ode on a Grecian Urn" of "that heifer lowing at the skies"
