Ashdown Forest, The North Pole - a photo on Flickriver

            A.A. Milne and his family lived at Crotchford Farm in Ashwood Forest and the landscape of the forest inspired the Winnie-the-Pooh stories.
In Chapter 8 of “Winnie-the-Pooh” (published in 1926) Christopher Robin leads an “expotition” to the North Pole. Just after eating lunch near a stream, there is a splash and baby Roo falls into the pool below a waterfall. Pooh finds a long pole which he and Kanga hold against the lower part of the pool. Roo drifts up against the pole and climbs out. Christopher Robin realises that the pole is in fact the North Pole they have been looking for. They stick the pole in the ground, and Christopher Robin ties a message to it:

The pole and message have disappeared but the waterfalls and pools are still there. The location of the North Pole discovered by Winnie-the-Pooh is Latitude N51°4'9.72", Longitude E0°6'11.47".
