View of the West Side branch library

            This is the former location of a telephone exchange office until around 1908 when it was given to the city and converted to a lending library. Once the collection outgrew the building, though, the current structure was erected c.1926, almost 100 years ago from today.

Although it seems most eyeballs in 2024 stare at small screens instead of opening books and magazines (much less newspapers), libraries continue to open new worlds and refresh weary minds hungry to learn or see other times and places.
