Ca. 407-406 B.C.E., 8.59 g. Head of Athena right in crested helmet with three olive leaves over visor and palmette on bowl, wearing button earring./ AΘΕ Owl standing right on olive branch, head facing; to left, sprig of olive with two leaves; all in incuse square.

An exceedingly rare coin of the very highest interest and of monumental importance. Probably the finest known. Extremely fine.

A gold stater produced by Athens to stave off bankruptcy at the end of the Peloponnesian War; one of perhaps five known with nearly all in museums.
