Now retired close to 2 years, (on Nov. 30th) and concentrating mostly with the photographs I take on my trips (which average one every three months) I don't feel the need to constantly take photos of the same places "around town" unless the skies look great, the weather is perfect, and I really want to get out and about.

I've faced the fact I'm getting older, and I marshal up my energies for the trips. That said, I recently got a new camera, (Canon EOS R5) and I've always joked that getting a new camera is an excuse to go taking photos of places I've been before many times, because it's like seeing the scenery with a new set of eyes. (45MP sensor worth of "eyes" in this case.)

Today I drove across town to Torrance Beach when I saw the cloudscapes outside my house. Even though it's November now, and the weather is cooling down a bit, there were plenty of folks at the beach. Mostly surfers and families.

I saw this photo in my head as soon as I spotted the little sand berm, which is only about two feet high. When I got alongside, I angled the camera up (to catch the clouds in all their glory) from about two-three inches off the sand. I was crouching down looking at the swivel LCD screen, but the glare from the sun didn't allow me to frame the scene perfectly in camera. So I shot a few times to make sure I got coverage.
The photo came out perfectly. A "money shot" as it were. Glad I made the trip to the beach this morning. Just getting this photo was worth it.
