Alte Synagoge Erfurt - a photo on Flickriver

            The old synagoge in Erfurt is the oldest well preseved synagoge in Central Europe. The eldest parts are from the 11. century. A museum will be established at this place until 2009.
The exhibition will include medieval objects of jewish life in Erfurt and an extended documentation of the building history of the synagoge.
This will give a detailed impression of the Erfurt jewish community, which was in a prominent position in the european medieval times.

Die Alte Synagoge in Erfurt ist  die älteste erhaltene Synagoge in Mitteleuropa. Die ältesten Bauteile stammen aus dem  11. Jahrhundert. Bis 2009 wird hier ein Museum entstehen.
Mittelalterlicher Sachzeugnisse aus Erfurt und eine ausführliche Analyse der Baugeschichte der Synagoge werden ein weitgefächertes Bild der Geschichte der Erfurter Gemeinde zeigen. Diese Gemeinde hatte im Mittelalter eine herausragende Stellung in Europa inne.
