Magdalene Bridge, Cambridge - a photo on Flickriver

            There has been a crossing here since Roman times but the first bridge is thought to have been erected by Offa in the 8th century. This gave Cambridge its name. The present Magdalene Bridge dates from 1823 and is constructed from a single cast-iron span. On the right of the picture is Magdalene College, which dates from the 15th century, Unlike most of the early colleges which are built from stone, Magdalene is constructed from brick. The pink-painted building in Magdalene Street, on the other side of the bridge, was constructed in the 16th century but has been substantially altered since then. It is Grade II-listed.
