Lighthouse on the harbour wall, Mevagissey

            Another shot from the archives. We visited Mevagissey in Cornwall a couple of years ago. The pretty little fishing port is on the south coast and has two harbours. The lighthouse is made from cast iron, is about 26 feet tall and can be seen from around 12 miles. It was erected when the outer harbour wall was rebuilt in 1897, and like the streets of the village was initially powered by electricity generated using pilchard oil.

This will probably be my last posting for a few weeks as we are heading off to our holiday home in North Lancashire, and I don't yet have the facilities to post decent quality pictures from there. So I shall wait until I get back. I must invest in a decent laptop and updated software, but that will have to wait for the time being!
