Drama in the Sky

            Went for a beachwalk today - quite warm and humid for the South Coast - courtesy of remnants of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Dolores.  We even got rained on (just a little).  I had hoped for some nice sunset - but the cloud cover became thicker and thicker by the minute.  The above view is looking East with the sun almost directly behind me.

That's Platform Holly atop Ellwood Oilfield - 2 miles off-shore in 211 feet of water.  The the two boats are her support; "Doug C" and "Joie C".  Judging by the car and bus traffic atop the pier, there must have been shift change.

Ellwood Venoco Pier and Venoco Ellwood Oil & Gas Processing Facility sandwich the posh Bacara Resort & Spa. Next up the coast is the Sandpiper Golf Club and Course - certainly a very weird mixture of luxury and industry.   Aside from ranches, there's no more development north (actually west) of the Bacara on what's known as the Gaviota Coast - and many hope that it will stay that way indefinitely.
