USS Texas - a photo on Flickriver

USS Texas

            Now a museum ship, the USS Texas is a dreadnaught era battleship launched in 1914. She served in both World Wars I and II and is the only remaining ship of its type in the world.

Originally slated to be a target ship in atomic bomb testing, a fund drive in Texas raised enough money to save her, and she moved to her current location near the San Jacinto Monument in 1948.

Years of neglect and corrosion have left her hull in bad shape, so the Battleship Texas Commission will tow her to a drydock in Galveston at the end of August, 2022, for repairs. She will probably remain in Galveston after that, where she will be visible to more tourists.
