HOU JE VEILIG..;-) || KEEP SAFE - a photo on Flickriver

            Tijdens de opening van een expositie zijn er twee vragen waar ik een tikje ongelukkig van word:
-1- Wat stelt het voor? 
-2- Hoelang heb je aan dit stuk gewerkt?

Dit werkstuk 'stelt niks voor', maar het verbeeldt veel.
Eind negentiger jaren deed ik een project samen met Patricia Collins, "Hands over water", we gebruiken veel handschoenen, gevonden, gebruikt & gekocht. We schreven teksten, maakten tekeningen, prenten, collages en foto's. Als afsluiting van ons project makten we  een kunstenaarsboek in een oplage van 3. We hielden zelf ieder een exemplaar en een boek  stuurden we naar Lois Klassen. 
Ik ben nooit helemaal over de handschoen heen gekomen, ik ben nog steeds geboeid door de vorm van handschoenen, vooral als ze veel gedragen zijn.
Maak je geen zorgen over het nestje. Dit gezellige vogelwoninkje was al lang verlaten door de bewoners. We vonden het in de heg toen bij de herfst-snoeibeurt.

Dit stuk maakte ik in minder dan 10 minuten. Maar er is een lang geschiedenis aan vooraf gegaan. 
Dat geldt ook voor die paar rake portret en naakt-tekeningen, snel gemaakt, maar er liggen honderden niet-rake tekeningen in de prullenbak.

There are two questions about my artwork that make me a bit unhappy.
-1- What is it?
-2-How long have you worked on this piece?

In the nineties I did a mail-art-project with Patricia Collins; "Hands over water", we used a lot of gloves, found, used & purchased. We wrote lyrics, made drawings, prints and photos. At the end of our project we made an artist's book in an edition of 3. We kept each one copy and a we sent the third book to Lois Klassen.

I'm still enthralled by the form of gloves, especially if they are frequently worn.
Don't worry about the bird's nest. This cosy bird house was abandoned by the residents. We found it in the hedge when we did  the autumn pruning.

This piece I made in less than 10 minutes. But there is a long history.
This also applies to those few wonderful  portraits and nude drawings, quickly made, but there are hundreds of not-at-all-wonderful  drawings in the trash-bin.
