            Almost molted into "breeding" plumage

A very uncommonly-seen bird in this part of California. It was designated the state bird of Colorado in 1931. This individuaI was actively SINGING just before I took this picture. This is a male molting into its alternate spring plumage. The birds in this area were not found by me originally.
