321.2° (4.28 km away): Storm on the Atomium

            On February 22, 2024, as Storm Louis approached the Atomium, it covered it with a layer of dark gray sky, followed by a deep black layer topped by light gray clouds, while behind me blue sky still covered part of the horizon.

The Atomium was designed by engineer André Waterkeyn for the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. It is composed of nine steel spheres linked together to form a unit cell of an iron crystal enlarged 165 billion times.

Behind the Atomium, other buildings of the Heysel Exhibition Centre can be seen:
- on the left, the King Baudouin Stadium;
- in front of it, the copper dome of the Planetarium;
- and on the right, the imposing Grand Palais (or Palais 5).

FR : Tempête sur l'Atomium

Le 22 février 2024, en s'approchant de l'Atomium, la tempête Louis l'a recouvert d'une couche de ciel gris foncé, suivie d'une couche noire surmontée de nuages gris clair, alors que derrière moi du ciel bleu couvrait toujours une partie de l'horizon.

L'Atomium fut conçu par l'ingénieur André Waterkeyn pour l'exposition universelle de Bruxelles en 1958. Il est composé de neuf sphères en acier reliées entre elles pour former une cellule unitaire d'un cristal de fer agrandi 165 milliards de fois.

Derrière l'Atomium, on distingue d'autres édifices du Parc des Expositions du Heysel :
- à gauche, le Stade Roi Baudouin ; 
- devant celui-ci, la coupole en cuivre du Planétarium ;
- et à droite, l'imposant Grand Palais (ou Palais 5).

NL: Stom op het Atomium

Op 22 februari 2024, toen Storm Louis het Atomium naderde, bedekte hij het met een laag donkergrijze lucht, gevolgd door een diepzwarte laag met daarop lichtgrijze wolken, terwijl achter mij blauwe luchtnog  een deel van de horizon bedekte.

Het Atomium werd ontworpen door ingenieur André Waterkeyn voor de Wereldtentoonstelling van Brussel in 1958. Het bestaat uit negen stalen bollen die met elkaar verbonden zijn tot een eenheidscel van een ijzerkristal dat 165 miljard keer vergroot is.

Achter het Atomium zijn andere gebouwen van het Heizelpark te zien:
- links het Koning Boudewijnstadion; 
- ervoor, de koperen koepel van het Planetarium;
- en rechts het imposante Paleis 5.
