BURROOWL hypugaea 0390 - a photo on Flickriver

            Burrowing Owl (Western), Athene cunicularia hypugaea, 24.13 cm. / 9.5 in.  UNCOMMON and local.  Found in expansive, nearly flat open areas such as prairie grassland, with a few scattered shrubs.  Ranging from S.W. Canada to El Salvador, this bird was part of a pair actively feeding young owls amid the lekking GREPRACHIs at the Bledsoe Ranch in Colorado.  It was early AM, cold and raining.
