            La Conversation sacrée est un thème très courant à la Renaissance. Elle met en scène plusieurs saints encadrant de façon symétrique la Vierge et le Christ enfant. A Venise, Giovanni Bellini et Antonello da Messina ont défini un style particulier de Conversation sacrée avec un développement pyramidal centré sur la figure de la Vierge assise sur un trône élevé.
Le peintre place la Vierge au centre d’une chapelle dont l’architecture est inspirée de l’antique. Au-dessus d’elle, la coupole qui couronne la composition est ornée d’une mosaïque d’inspiration byzantine.

Sacred Conversation is a very common theme in the Renaissance. It depicts several saints symmetrically flanking the Virgin and Christ child. In Venice, Giovanni Bellini and Antonello da Messina have developed a particular style of sacred conversation with a pyramidal development centered on the figure of the Virgin seated on a high throne.
The artist places the Virgin in the center of a chapel whose architecture is inspired by the ancient. Above it, the dome that crowns the composition is decorated with a mosaic of Byzantine inspiration.
