Here's a little more from the Hawaii vacation archives. Hanalei Bay is on the North side of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. There's only really one primary road that circles most of the island. Take Kuhio Highway, also known as State Highway 56, towards the famed Na Pali Coast State Park. It will become State Highway 560 close to Hanalei Bay.

We stumbled onto the area while wondering around. Hanalei Bay itself is a great spot for a sundown panoramic. I didn't have the right equipment at the time so I decided to focus more on the pier. We got hit by a not uncommon late afternoon rain shower that almost sent me packing. I'm glad I waited it out under a palm tree. After the sun went down we found a great little sushi spot, Sushi Blues, on the North Shore close to Hanalei. If you take the road west out of Hanalei, you will eventually end up driving right into the Na Pali Coast State Park. You'll know when you get there as the pavement stop and sand begins.
