'Later Days'

            'The Gravity of Gravity'

Youth is highly decorative in its time
But is too soon stolen, a silent crime.
Gravity is having it out with my face.
My once perky parts have lost their place.
I wouldn’t say I am starting to sag,
But I am feeling unfurled like a lank flag.
My energy has fled with the nouns I have lost.
Any exertion comes with a cost.
The mirror once was a kind friend,
But there’s a reflection now I can barely amend.
It comes and goes that I am slick with sweat,
So, I dress in layers to forego the wet.
My appetite is such that it does not end,
And a thickened form is now the trend.
I would pluck wild eyebrows if I could,
Problem is, I don’t see that good.
Add insult to injury in what I can see -
Hairs are growing where a mustache shouldn’t be!
Just don’t look closely at my chin,
No dignity there either, to my chagrin.
So, gravity has worn the youth from my face,
Wisdom for youth, an exchange to embrace.
Now, there is a fact for which I am gratefully amazed,
My beloved still loves me and is completely unfazed.
