NYC wedding: Wendy and John - a photo on Flickriver

            All weddings are meaningful to us; after the jumble of 2020 moreso than ever. But Wendy and John’s wedding had all sorts of special meaning.

Most obviously, Wendy is a dear friend of ours, having helped run the ship as our administrative assistant for nearly five years. Even her wonderful mother is a constant positive presence in our lives, sending us praise and encouragement with regularity.

But the wedding itself was as heart-warming as they could possibly come, including one of the sweetest moments we’ve seen in more than a thousand weddings. Wendy is a professional dancer and physical trainer, so you may not be able to tell that she was in her second trimester of pregnancy. But what her parents didn’t know is that her best friend Caitlin — a professional midwife whose wedding we also photographed — had brought her ultrasound equipment so they could hear the baby’s heart for the first time. It was an absolutely incredible moment.

And the wedding itself exemplified everything we love about the micro-weddings of 2020. Every guest was incredibly important to the couple, and the day was stripped down to the most important parts — a deeply personal ceremony and good times with friends and family.

The ceremony was performed by a friend and paid tribute to the four elements as well as their love. And while there was no raucous dance floor for these two professional dancers, they shared a first dance in the park followed by everyone offered a turn at a piñata bash.
