Becky Cloonan went to the same High School as me. She graduated about five years after I did. I remember hearing about her from a mutual friend about how she wanted to do animation and comic art. I got to meet her in person around 1999, when she went with a group of us to see Star Wars Episode 1. I remember her showing us a demo reel of animated super-deformed Street Fighter characters fighting. It was amazing.

Between 1999 and 2011, Becky has become one of the predominant female comic book artists of this generation. Her independent comics have been nominated for an Eisner Award, and she's worked with Marvel Comics and DC/Vertigo Comics. She's doing tons of appearances at comic conventions all over the world.

She is doing seriously Epic Shit. As a lifelong comic book fan, I can't even comprehend the amount of awesomeness she's doing right now.

Becky tweeted she was going to be visiting her family for a few days in NH. I shot her a tweet asking her to get together and she was on board.

I spent so much time chatting her up about the comics industry and what she's been doing for the last decade, I didn't leave myself a lot of time to shoot her.

Luckily, I rode my scooter to the studio that day, and we had nice weather, decent sky and an alley way next to my building. I grabbed a light, my scooter, my camera and Becky and we improvised.

Keep your eye on her - she's going to explode with awesomeness soon. Truth.
