An interesting, Tessar design, Soviet-era lens from a FED Rangefinder camera. These lenses and cameras were made in several different factories, mostly in Ukraine. This particular lens was made in 1987.
They use a L-39 mount. I bought a L-39 to RF adapter which works well and I can focus to infinity with it on my Canon R7, but the minimum focus distance of this lens is 1 meter. Which really makes this lens sort of a pain to use the way I like lenses to work. So I also bought a L-39 to M42 ring and now I can use this lens with my focusing helicoids and a thin mount M42 to RF adapter and make this into a very useable close focusing, macro lens. I also love the Zebra Strip build of this lens. The black accents on the polished silver of the aluminum is so classic. A good looking lens.

This lens came to me from Ukraine where it was made and in great numbers. It was in fairly rough shape as it had a small bit of oil or wax on the back of the blades, the focus ring was very hard to turn and notchy, which made it close to impossible to focus reliably and there was some small amount of dust on the lens elements on both sides of the aperture. It required a pretty decent disassembly, a thorough cleaning and reassembly. The grease was more like a wax, very different than what was used on the Helios lenses that were made in the same factories as these lenses. Not that the grease used in those lenses was much better.
The lens is now working flawlessly. While maybe not the sharpest lens I own, its actually pretty good and interesting.
