American robin fledgling - a photo on Flickriver

            Flickr Lounge, sign or signs: sign of spring, new life

This handsome young robin waited in a mulberry tree while its mother found ripe berries to bring it. I love the young, naive expression on its face. It was interesting to me that its mama called it to the other side of the tree to feed it, to get it farther from me. I moved to the other side of the tree, too, where it was still exposed. I could just see her mind whirring as she hesitated--should she reward Junior for obeying her, or encourage it to get deeper into cover? Well, robins are basically people-friendly birds, and she decided to go ahead and feed. (The feeding had a stick across their faces from my view, however.)
