Mésange nonnette ( Poecile palustris - Marsh Tit )

            La Mésange nonnette est  l'une des mésanges aux couleurs les plus ternes. Dessus brun-gris uni sans aucune zone pâle sur l'aile ; dessous variant entre le blanc et le beige ; queue fine ; tête ronde avec une large calotte noire brillante descendant sur la nuque, menton noir, de larges joues blanches. Bec fin noir. Les deux sexes sont identiques. La Mésange nonnette peut être confondue avec la Mésange boréale qui, elle, présente une zone plus pâle sur l'aile, absente chez la Mésange nonnette. Les mésanges nonnettes sont de petits oiseaux sveltes, généralement curieux et peu farouches. Les mésanges nonnettes apparaissent généralement en couple à la mangeoire, prospectant avec d'autres mésanges. Cependant il s'agit de "couple" composés d'individus du même sexe qui passent l'hiver ensemble. Dès le printemps, lorsque les mâles commencent à chanter, les « faux » couples se séparent. Elles préfèrent chasser dans les niveaux inférieurs de la végétation et au sol. Elles accumulent souvent des réserves pour les périodes de disette.

The Northern Chickadee is one of the dullest colored chickadees. Plain gray-brown upper without any pale areas on the wing; underside varying between white and beige; thin tail; round head with a large shiny black crown descending to the nape, black chin, broad white cheeks. Thin black beak. The two sexes are identical. The barnacle tit can be confused with the boreal tit which, for its part, presents a paler area on the wing, absent in the barnacle tit. The barnacles are small, slender birds, generally curious and not very shy. Small tits usually appear in pairs at the feeder, prospecting with other tits. However, these are "couples" made up of individuals of the same sex who spend the winter together. In the spring, when the males start to sing, the “false” pairs separate. They prefer to hunt in the lower levels of vegetation and on the ground. They often accumulate reserves for periods of famine.
